Coach Ralph's Michigan State Postgame Comment

Post by MikeADore »

Comment from coach Ralph about the game. Can't find a video anywhere, so apparently there was no postgame press conference. Someone from the Vanderbilt athletics website did talk to her:

“There were some moments today that were really good. We had a hard time sustaining those great moments, and I felt like, in the end, Michigan State did the things teams need to do to win games. Those things don’t necessarily show up in the box score. They made a lot more tough plays than us, out-hustled us in big moments, and you can just look at the stat sheet and see 20 offensive rebounds, and that will tell you what you need to know about that. There is a lot you can learn from a game like this, this early in the season. So far, I feel like our team has continued to grow. I’m certainly disappointed in the loss, but we can grow from this, and I look forward to doing that.”

I'm guessing these comments are only a part of her post-game comments. She mentioned the rebounding discrepancy, which was a glaring issue to be sure. But to me the turnovers were almost as troubling. We are not a tall team. A shorter team needs to win the turnover battle. We have NOT looked good against a press, and that just shouldn't be with all of our guard talent. We made lazy passes, ill-advised passes. I remember at least 4 occasions (there may have been more) when we couldn't get the ball inbounds. That shouldn't be. I know this is early in the season, but that is about as basic a fundamental as there is in basketball. So I feel certain that is something CSR will address going forward. She can't be happy about the TO's.
