Appalachian State at Vanderbilt (12-1-24) 2 p.m. (SEC+)
Things I’d like to see:
* Aga. Where’d she go? She never left the bench in the two-game Palm Springs tourney.
* More Aiyana, less Iyana. Aiyana Mitchell played 11 minutes against Michigan State, the biggest, baddest, toughest team we’ve face, and she went 3 for 3 and grabbed six rebounds in those 11 minutes. Iyana Moore, on the other hand, played 37 minutes against Arizona, shot 1 for 9 and turned it over seven times. The next day against Michigan State, she played all 40 minutes, shot 5 for 20 and turned it over eight times. This is not a blanket indictment of Iyana, but she has always had games like this from time to time, and we have enough guard depth this season that we can give her some relief. I expect her to bounce back with a good game today vs. App State, but a little rest now and then couldn’t hurt.
* Some consistent minutes from Justine Pissott. She looked pretty solid in Palm Springs and was no longer wearing the wrap on her left calf, but she still only played four minutes against Arizona and five against Michigan State.
* More from the bench as a whole. Coach rode the top six hard at the tourney, and it seemed to catch up with them in the last five minutes of the Michigan State game when we went from a one-point lead to a 10-point deficit before losing by eight. Against Arizona, the bench only played 37 minutes with Kapinus getting 25 of those. Against MSU in the championship game. the bench only contributed 38 minutes, and Kapinus got 20 of those. There’s no doubt this is a deeper team than we’ve had. Here’s hoping some of those other bench players do what it takes to gain coach Ralph’s trust in tough games. We’re going to need more than six to compete in the SEC.
* For the record, I was very proud of the team's performance against Michigan State. They're a very tough team with a couple of elite players, and we battled them tooth and nail. That game should make us better.

The two-point first quarter was a program record. Women's basketball switched to the quarter system in 2015-16, and we've never held a team below three points in a period until now.
