The new schedule is here! The new schedule is here!

Post by AuricGoldfinger »

Vanderbilt baseball released its full 2025 schedule Thursday, featuring two trips out west along with 19 home nonconference games.

Of Vanderbilt’s 56 games on the schedule, 30 of them will come against programs that made the NCAA Tournament last season including 12 against opponents that made it to Omaha.

The Commodores will open the 2025 campaign Feb. 14-16 in Phoenix at the MLB Desert Invitational with games against Grand Canyon, Nebraska and UC Irvine.

Vandy then hosts Air Force for a pair of midweek contests before welcoming Saint Mary’s (Calif.) to town for a three-game series Feb. 21-23.

Following a midweek game against Tennessee Tech at home, Vanderbilt heads back west to Los Angeles for the Dodgertown Classic. The Dores will face UCLA, USC and UConn.

A six-game homestand follows the trip to Los Angeles featuring midweek games against Evansville and St. Bonaventure, a three-game series against Xavier and a Tuesday matchup with Valparaiso.

Vanderbilt opens SEC action March 14-16 at Auburn. The Dores will then play nine consecutive home games including nonconference contests against Belmont, Eastern Kentucky and Western Kentucky with home SEC series against Texas A&M and Arkansas.

Interestingly, the VU schedule says the LA games will be in...Los Angeles. USC's schedule says VU is playing them in Irvine in Orange County. And UConn's schedule says we are playing the Huskies at Dodger Stadium. Chaos.

Is anyone aware of where in Phoenix the MLB sponsored games will be played? Levonia wants to go. Yeah, yeah, that's it, Levonia wants to go. Who am I to say no to the the Lovely Levonia. I...uhhhh...she was wondering about venues. Phoenix is a big place with lots of stadiums. In reality, Levonia, still something of a neophyte baseball fan, is looking forward to a few days in Arizona and watching the VandyBoys, her favorite team. Any insights would be most welcome.

In the past the event has been held at Salt River Fields at Talking Stick in Scottsdale, and at Sloan Park in Mesa. Given that Salt River Fields is also Grand Canyon's home field and the VU schedule says Vandy will be "at" GCU, I'm assuming that's where Vandy will play (although GCU hasn't posted its 2025 schedule). The 2025 Nebraska schedule doesn't specify the venues, either, but does say the Huskers will be in Scottsdale. The other team on the Vandy slate for the event, UC Irvine, hasn't released its 2025 schedule.

Scottsdale is a beautiful place to stay. I think Levonia will enjoy her trip out there.

Auric, thank you for that rundown, makes sense. And Levonia says thank you very much, she's very excited about the trip.

Mrs. Versus and I went to the tournament at Talking Stick on Valentine’s weekend 2020. Very nice place. Small crowds. Old Towne Scottsdale lovely. MLB parks all around. We saw a few. Easy drive to Sedona or even Grand Canyon.

Then the news came from Wuhan and it wasn’t long before the season was cancelled.

Versus, thanks for the insights. Levonia & I are heading to AZ a couple days early and spending some time at the Grand Canyon. Neither of us have been there before, so we're looking forward to that. Sedona and Old Town Scottsdale sound cool. We're equally excited about seeing games at 2-3 different ballparks. That was Levonia talking 😉
