The Vanderbilt game notes say: Vanderbilt will be looking for its first-ever win over a top-ranked opponent and first win over Alabama since 1993.
The Alabama game notes say that Alabama has won 23 straight games in the series dating back to 1984 (which would count the 1993 game as an Alabama win).
No. 2-ranked Crimson Tide won that 1993 game on the field, 17-6, but was later forced by the NCAA to forfeit the game. Alabama DB Antonio Langham was later found guilty of receiving improper benefits after signing with an agent following the 1992 season, which technically made him ineligible to compete in the 1993 season.
Not sure if the Vanderbilt game notes writer is ignorant and just looking things up in old record books (I wouldn't doubt that, as Vandy has not had an SID for football for several years now), or is just trying to tweak Alabama.
