T-19 days to National Signing Day... 20 guys are currently committed, but recruiting is far from done... Gregory Smith III, a senior 6-4 200 QB/S from Sumner, Florida visits Vandy this weekend for an official visit... Vandy wants him as a DB... he has a 4-star rating from On3.com... Florida is probably the favorite for him, but Vandy has been recruiting him hard this whole past year and gets a chance to make its pitch this weekend...
4-star QB/S/ATH from Florida taking OV to VU this weekend
For discussion regarding the Vanderbilt Commodores' football program.

Kept waiting for some film of him as a safety but alas, saw none. But seeing how he responded to some bad snaps and OL breakdowns, he is a great match as a VU QB. (Sarcasm).

Don’t hold your breath. He has to be taking notes on the disastrous 2023 season and mass exodus.

Would you believe that Ole Miss lost 32 players to the transfer portal last year? They did OK this year (10-2). Oregon lost 32... they bounced back OK (11-2). Missouri lost 23, and they went 10-2 this year.
Vanderbilt fans are just a little slow, methinks, to understand the new realities. Vandy lost only 11 players to the portal last year, and fans may not understand yet, that was the exception, not the rule.

Usually, however, if a team has 30 in the portal, 25-26 will be second and third line players who don't play much or who thing they should play more. In our case, most are starters or second string folks who play a lot...like all three QBs.BrentVU wrote: ↑Sun Dec 03, 2023 6:55 pm Would you believe that Ole Miss lost 32 players to the transfer portal last year? And unfortunately, VU does not, will not, accept transfers (portal or not) like Ole Miss, Oregon, and Missouri.

Update: Smith visited Vandy on Dec. 1-3, and Florida on Dec. 8-10. I think this is coming down to Vanderbilt and Florida, with Florida having a big edge as the home-state team and the most recent visit...
But yesterday Smith (super-speedy QB/DB from Sumner, FL), after consulting with his family, postponed his announcement until next Wednesday, signing day... I think that might be a great sign for Vanderbilt. (Doesn't want all the grief he would get by signing with a team other than Florida? Hmm?) Stay tuned... he is probably the biggest HS name still left on Vandy's board.
