The Original Big 3 of Southern Football

Post by MikenNashville »

Alabama, Georgia Tech and Vanderbilt, would be awesome if we can beat both of our historical nemesis in one year.

Last time these two teams played was at Grant Field and the Yellow Jackets shellacked the
Dores. Time for payback!

No Bobby Dodd but Tech coach is from Birmingham, coaching at his alma mater and is young and bald - reminds me of another coach. Go Dores.

The story lines for this one are great. Also throw in there that former VU RB Norval McKenzie is a Ga. Tech coach and was on our staff a couple of years ago.

Has GA. Tech played in Birmingham since the infamous Bama - Tech game from the early 60's when Bama's Darwin Holt ended Tech's Chick Graning's football career? I was there, about 10 or 11 years old.

Some Pre WW2 (through 1941 season) History of the “Battle for the Golden Cowbell:
Vanderbilt wins 15
Georgia Tech wins 8
Ties 1
Not that any of this matters for the upcoming bowl game but I find it interesting nonetheless.
