Vandy picks up big 2026 commitment

Post by AuricGoldfinger »

Keon Johnson is currently ranked the 6th best player in his class. Powerful shortstop from Macon, GA.

Interested to see how NIL plays out versus “disappointing” deals offered by drafting teams. Likely not for first rounders but maybe increasingly for some higher draftees. We’ll see

Highschool recruiting for baseball is meaningless. The best recruits go to the pros right out of HS. You get their commitment and they never come to campus. Then the next best recruits come from the transfer portal. Vandy is always ranked top 5 in their recruiting classes but the top 5-7 are taken in the draft and they wind up with a mediocre class as a result that takes 3 year if they produce at all and they should instead focus their efforts on transfer portal recruits that don't jump pro from HS that produce right away. It's not a big roster like football.
