5-way tie for 7th place in SEC?

Post by Versus75 »

If Alabama holds on to win at Auburn today (leading 8-5 in the bottom of the 8th inning), there will be a 5-way tie for seventh place in the SEC Baseball standings headed to the SEC tournament.

edit: At about 8:25 CDT, a Bammer player knocked a 3-run home run in the top of the ninth inning to extend the lead to 12-5. … then a little rain … then a lightning delay.

We’re gonna wait awhile for the final SECT seedings and pairings for Tuesday.

The seed, pending tiebreakers that I am not going to figure at this time:

Code: Select all

Seed ... TEAM ........ SEC ... OVERALL .. RPI .....
01. Tennessee ....... 22- 8 ... 46-10 ... 05 (tie, 1st in East, beat UK 2 of 3)
02. Arkansas ........ 20-10 ... 43-12 ... 02 (first in West)
03. Kentucky ........ 22- 8 ... 49-12 ... 03
04. Texas A&M ....... 19-11 ... 44-11 ... 01

05t Georgia ......... 17-13 ... 39-14 ... 06
05t Miss. State ..... 17-13 ... 36-19 ... 23
07t Alabama ......... 13-17 ... 33-21 ... 18
07t So. Carolina .... 13-17 ... 33-21 ... 20
07t Florida ......... 13-17 ... 28-26 ... 22
07t Vanderbilt ...... 13-17 ... 35-20 ... 26
07t LSU ............. 13-17 ... 36-20 ... 29
12. Ole Miss ........ 11-19 ... 27-28 ... 32

Vandy will be the 7th seed in Hoover and face LSU if Alabama loses, with the winner to face Arkansas. Vandy will be the 8 seed if Alabama wins and would face Florida, with the winner to play UT.

Because of how it all shook out, we will be playing Florida at 4:30 on Tuesday. Winner gets Tennessee.
We are the 8th seed, Florida the 9th.

I’ve got vandy as the 9 vs 8 seed Alabama. Where did you see otherwise?

When more than one team is tied it goes to record Vs tied teams

Sc went 6-3 vs Florida bama vandy and Lsu
Bama 4-2
Vandy and Florida 4-5 (vu gets head to head)
Lsu 3-6

I would be interested to know how we ended up #8 out of this group? And South Carolina 10th.

A very strange season. We won games against the two best teams that tied for the Championship - but got swept by some unlikely suspects (granted, on the road.)

Three things: I do think the loss of Davis really hurt us. I also think having to struggle to find the formula to replace Davis will help us in the long run. I really liked yesterday’s lineup - although I might insert Kozeal or Humphreys at DH.

Second, I found it fascinating that we went to signals rather than our “devices” yesterday. I prefer signals anyway. Just the same, our splits are so off, I wondered at times if home teams could somehow read our devices? They sure guessed right a lot at any rate. Yesterday, not so much.

I am not a fan of these tournaments - wear out arms… but, this year, I was hoping for a rematch with Mississippi State. Of all the series we played, that is the one that bothered me most. Both the game where they threw at Davis and profited from it (I blame the ump more than them) - and our 9th inning decision to pitch to a red hot Hines the next day with first base open. We could have swept it - instead we lost it. It ignited their season. I suppose we could see them again?

I figured it out, I believe, but this comment regarding a "Three-Team Tie (or more) tiebreaker is ambiguous:

"(Note: If the three [or more] tied teams have three different records against each other, they shall be seeded in best-percentage order.)"

Code: Select all

These are the records among the tied teams:
Alabama ......... 2-1 ... .667
South Carolina .. 6-3 ... .667
Vanderbilt ...... 4-5 ... .444
Florida ......... 4-5 ... .444
LSU ............. 3-6 ... .333
I would have thought 'Bama and South Carolina in a tie for 7-8; 'Bama wins head-to-head tiebreaker. VU and Florida tie for 9-10; VU wins head-to-head tiebreaker. LSU #11.

Perhaps the Commish or whomever eliminated LSU by the percentage reasoning but still saw a four-team tie (at 13-17 overall in conference) and went to the NEXT applicable tiebreaker:

"B. Won-lost percentage of the tied teams versus the No. 1 seed ... using common opponents only."

Alabama, at 2-1 versus Tennessee, got the #7 seed.
Vanderbilt and Florida were both 1-2 versus Tennessee; VU wins head-to-head tiebreaker for the #8 seed / Florida #9.
South Carolina 0-3 versus Tennessee for the #10 seed.

As the resident conspiracy theorist, I have also wondered this. I mean, they have been getting lit up on the road.
