I think this is a GREAT pickup considering the spot we are in. I think anyone would be thrilled with 19-15 record next year. MJ is experienced and he has 2 years eligibility left.
Coach B knows what he is getting and apparently likes his game for the system that will be implemented.
Unfortunately, with the new portal system, you can't afford to wait on players to develop and see if they pan out.
Another portal pickup from VT: MJ Collins

I really hate to lose West. He was injured quite a bit which hindered his productivity, but he did show a lot of potential in a few games. Losing any playing or practice time takes a dramatic toll on your overall game and it’s almost like starting the season over again.
I know Collins is not a better ball handler than Tanner, our incoming frosh. I believe Tanner is going to really surprise a lot of people!

I guess I commented before watching some actual video of him. What a passer and great hops. Very quick and athletic......makes his teammates look better. I think he could play point. He had other teammates that shot the 3.....didn't see him take one in the video. He is quick and great D....and can sure slam!

Here is his scouting video - I agree he is athletic - seems to have good handles and court vision. I can see how he would be much more effective in a full court style than a half court game.
