If I were to rank the talent of the team

Post by Jason94 »

prior to CMB taking over and considering who had eligibility remaining, I would have ranked the players as follows:

Lubin
Lawrence
...
JRT
Smith
... the next 4 in no particular order:
Lewis
Roberts
West
Presley
...
Lang
Williams
other walkons.

Adding in the non-freshmen additions, the ranking would look like this:

Lubin/Nickel
Lawrence
Carey
Collins
...
JRT and so forth.

We have to keep into perspective how decimated our roster was at the end of last season with the graduation of Manjon. If Lawrence moves on as expected, we would have had a total of 1 legitmate reliable SEC calibur player on the roster. I'm pretty sure that Nickel and Collins are SEC level players based on their starting last season at Va Tech and Carey was a regular rotation player on a 30+ win team that made it past the 1st round of the tournament.

In other words by my estimation the portal additions represent 3 of the top 4 or 5 players on our current roster depending upon whether Lawrence returns or not. Regardless of the size of the steps, they are in the right direction.

It would be nice to hang on to Smith Roberts and JRT. All have some upside.
